Rough measurements
Length and width for a deck or patio, run length for a fence, and height for a retaining wall. Paces are fine if you have not got a tape out.
A photo or two
One of the area itself and one standing back far enough to show the slope. The slope is what changes the price more than anything else.
What the ground is doing
Wet all winter, moving, cracking, or fine. This determines drainage and footing depth long before anyone talks about timber.
When you want it done
Whether you are moving in December or just thinking about next summer. It affects sequencing and whether consent is on the critical path.
