Really happy with the fence Tim built for us. He was easy to deal with, turned up when he said he would, and put a lot of care into getting everything right. The finished fence looks great and has made a huge difference to the property. Would definitely use Tim again and have no hesitation recommending him.

Decks and retaining walls, framed to suit the ground
The boards are what people look at, but the substructure decides whether a deck still feels solid in fifteen years. Post depth, bearer sizing and fixing type get set to the site rather than to a standard recipe.
- Kwila, vitex and treated pine
- Stainless steel fixings where the coastal exposure calls for it
- Stairs and balustrades built to comply
Getting to the half of your section you never use
Plenty of coastal properties waste good land because reaching it means crossing wet clay or a bank. A raised timber walkway solves that for a fraction of what excavating and paving the same route costs.
- Boardwalks carried on piles over wet ground and roots
- Stair flights set to an even, comfortable rise
- Non-slip detailing on shaded runs
Walls fail on drainage, not on timber
Walls that lean or blow out rarely fail because the posts were undersized. They fail because water built up behind them. Every wall gets a drainage layer, a coil and an outfall that actually goes somewhere.
- Timber and masonry, from garden terracing to driveway walls
- Terracing that turns a steep bank into usable flat ground
- H5 posts concreted to a depth matched to the retained height
Wind is what finishes fences off
A solid paling fence catches an enormous amount of wind, and shallow posts start to lean within a couple of seasons. Post depth gets set to the height and exposure, and on the worst boundaries a slatted design lets air through instead of fighting it.
- Boundary fences, slatted screens, trellis and gates
- Compliant timber pool fencing
- Fencing Act notices supported with a written specification
Turf, planting and edible gardens
A build is not finished while the ground around it is bare clay. Instant turf goes down over a base that has been cleared, levelled and topsoiled, so the lawn holds rather than sinking into ruts over the first winter.
Planting is chosen for the exposure it will actually face, and irrigation is run before the turf and beds go in rather than retrofitted around them. Edible gardens are a growing part of the work, including raised planter boxes built to suit the space and a run-through of how to keep them producing.
- ReadyLawn instant turf over prepared and levelled ground
- Planting and irrigation set out together, not one after the other
- Edible gardens, raised planter boxes and how to run them

- OwnerOn site, every job
Tim trained as a joiner and builder, and brought workshop standards outside with him. That shows up in the parts of a build nobody photographs: whether the framing is square before the boards go down, how the end grain is sealed, what the fixings are made of on a section three hundred metres from the sea.
Twenty five years across Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast covers everything from show garden work to full section builds, and the structural work still does not get subbed out. If you talk to Tim about a deck, he is the person who will build it.

Working with Tim was awesome!!! he was so full of knowledge, always informed us of his plans for our gardens, kind and very respectful. He is our "Grass Guru", we never imagined our lawns could be as luscious as they've grown 10/10 :thumbsup_tone3:
Tim replaced our small grass area with a ready lawn after the existing area had been dug up due to drainage works and dried out. We are very happy with the result and now have a thick (and visually pleasing) lawn.
Tim from The Landscape Company responded to a job I posted on No Cowboys. A small job with a tight timeframe at a time of year (leading up to Christmas) when it can be difficult to get things done. Tim was committed to getting the job done on time, working in the rain one day and even delayed his holiday by a day to complete the job. We were very grateful as it enabled us to give a new puppy a safe area. Tim always responded to my queries promptly, gave a timely quote, asked questions to understand our expectations of the finished job and communicated clearly on when he would be on site to do the work. When some of the timber was unexpectedly unavailable, he told us why and the cause of the delay. The final fences and gates are brilliant. Tim kept a very tidy worksite, ensured no mud was transferred to the concrete driveway, accommodated changes that arose due to a change of mind on our part, and was very easy and pleasant to deal with. I have no hesitation in recommending Tim from The Landscape Company.
Tim was recommended by a friend and I couldn’t be more pleased. He single-handedly transformed my garden. An absolute pleasure to work with, first rate communication, and a real down to earth knowledge of landscaping, and a real problem solver when my garden threw up challenges.

Tim was an absolute pleasure to work with, always responsive, and went above and beyond to ensure our complete satisfaction. His dedication to his craft is evident in every aspect of his work. We highly recommend Tim and The Landscape Company to anyone seeking top-notch landscaping services. Tims exceptional work has earned him a well-deserved 5 stars from us! Thank you for all the amazing work you have done for us and will continue to do for us hopefully in the future.
Describe the problem, not the solution
Most people ring asking for a retaining wall when what they need is drainage and a terrace. Tell Tim what the ground is doing and he will tell you what it actually takes.
